CHARLES TOWN — Hollywood Casino Vice President of Marketing Jamie Brown immediately knew the answer when asked which show she’s most looking forward to as live entertainment returns to the venue.
A lover of ‘80s rock, Billy Idol was, of course, the one to come to mind, but as she considered more, it’s really the variety in the lineup of coming shows that might be the most exciting. The Charles Town venue recently released show dates for Billy Idol, Melissa Etheridge, Rodney Carrington, .38 Special and Aaron Lewis.
“That’s one of the things we’re doing a little bit differently now, is getting a bunch of variety in entertainment,” Brown said. “No longer will it be to just come here to see the same shows that you’ve seen in Charles Town, but we’ve got some new, really exciting stuff coming that has never been performed here. It’ll be really cool to bring some different musicians out to West Virginia.”
Idol, Etheridge and .38 Special all bring their unique styles of rock to the casino, while Carrington will bring the country and comedy vibes. Lewis will provide that same country feel but with a rock n’ roll twist.
Brown and most of the team behind the entertainment are fairly new to the position, not having worked at the casino when live entertainment was allowed. With restrictions being lifted, and the thrill of live performances in the air, the team is excited to get things much closer to normal than they’ve been the last 18 months.
“Now that we’ve lifted all of the restrictions, it’s really a time to shine and show what we can do. I know we’re all really looking forward to it,” Brown said.
“I haven’t been here since we’ve had any live entertainment, and the team here is all brand new,” Brown added. “It’s exciting for all of us to put it back together. I started in October, and obviously, there was no entertainment going on then. It’ll be nice to get this going again.
“It just feels great to be back in a place where the world is returning to where it was pre-COVID. It’s a really good feeling. Everyone’s so excited about it.”
The excitement will continue into the future, as Brown hinted at some big performers to be announced in time.
“We’ve got five big shows for the first launch of entertainment, but we’ll have more coming soon, some other really cool big names, which will be exciting,” she said.
Restrictions for Hollywood Casino guests have been mostly lifted, those who are vaccinated not needing a mask. However, the casino is continuing its cleaning protocol to help ensure the safety of employees and guests alike.
“We’re back to normal out here, as much as we can be,” Brown said. “Still being safe and doing all our cleaning protocols, but we’re just excited about what’s to come.”
Thirty-eight Special kicks off the return, scheduled to perform on Sept. 24. Idol will be there the following day, Sept. 25, and Etheridge comes to town on Oct. 23. Carrington has two shows, an early and late performance, on Oct. 30, and Lewis and the Stateliners will be at the casino on Nov. 20-21.
Tickets are available for Hollywood Casino’s entertainment through Ticketmaster, and Brown said My Choice members, the casino’s membership program, are often given early access top resales of shows.
